Am I eligible for an ABLE account?
To be eligible for a Washington State ABLE account, the beneficiary must:
Have a disability that started before the age of 46 that will last, or has lasted at least a year
Disabilities include autism, mental illness, physical disabilities, deafness, blindness, and other conditions listed on the Social Security Administration’s “List of Compassionate Allowances Conditions”
Live in the state of Washington
Confirm one of the following:
Are eligible for Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) because of a disability
Can produce a signed diagnosis form by a licensed physician if requested
If you are eligible to open a Washington State ABLE account, you may be referred to as the eligible individual or the beneficiary. It is important to note that if your situation changes in any way causing you to no longer be eligible for a Washington State ABLE account, it is your, the person managing your account’s, or your Authorized Legal Representative’s obligation to notify us.
